August 2020 Meeting

Hello everyone! It's been a little while since I've been here on the blog. Quarantine has taken ahold of my life slightly, but I'm sure you're all experiencing the same thing on some level. But I have missed you all.

So we met online last night in a Facebook meeting room and it was so great seeing your beautiful, smiling faces. :)

The evening was filled with catching up with each other and also discussing what we'll be doing in the near future. Next month's meeting will be another virtual one and we'll discuss then what we feel comfortable doing for the following meeting (for the month of November).

We chose a new challenge for the month of September: Charm Pack Challenge! Bust out those charm packs you've saved and let's get to sewing! I'll be posting some ideas in our Facebook group so stay tuned for those. You can also feel free to share some of your favorite charm pack friendly projects in the group.

I'd requested you all send your Show and Tell to me ahead of time and these were the fun ones I received.

Jan has been busy! These are all quilts she's made in the past but gave away this month:

This one was given to her "bonus granddaughter".

This one went to her wonderful 15 year old family friend named Sophia.

This one went to Sophia's wild and crazy 10 year old sister, Louie.

This Sew Hometown Quilt, made from the calendar, went to the girls' parents, Elissa and Joey.

This Heartland Heritage Quilt went to Vivian, the woman who hired Jan at Barnes and Noble, who's now a paralegal. She cried when Jan gave it to her. Vivian's extended family is going through a rough patch and she said the quilt was just what she needed.

Nancy sent me this adorable cactus table runner she plans on gifting to her sister who lives in Arizona. The pattern is the Desert Cactus Quilt Block by Heather Valentine of The Sewing Loft.

She has also been making lots of masks still. Look at all of those fun prints!

I haven't been doing too much sewing lately, but these are some the things I've made: these book sleeves went into my Etsy shop for sale.

I've made lots of masks for family and friends and here are a couple I made for my friend's mom.

I made this extra large tote bag for my sister in law using a butterfly print from Ruby Star Society's Tiger Fly collection.

We hope you are all staying safe and sewing your little hearts out. We'd all love to see what you've been up to, so please share your latest projects in the Facebook group. The group page is also where you can stay tuned for more info and updates as they come.

July 2020 Meeting

We haven't met in person since February, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Our president, Nancy, got creative and used the new FB feature Room.  She sent out an invite to everyone who is part of our FB page.  We have 60 FB members and 4 of us showed up for the meeting.  We had a lot of fun sharing our Show and Tell and WIP.   We even showed off our dogs and cats!  Now, that's something you can't do in a normal meeting.

We understand that everyone is busy and that life happens!  Since we had fun "getting together" this way, we decided to do it again in 2 weeks, instead of waiting for the next meeting date.  Perhaps with advanced notice, more people will be able to attend.

May your bobbins always be full,

She also made this bag. :)

Jessica made this block from Tula Pink's 100 Modern Blocks book.

The new BOM for March is the Sailboat Quilt Block, which can be found here

The March meeting was cancelled due to the Coronavirus situation but we will be sharing our Show and Tell in the Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild Facebook page. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing what you all have created.

January 2020 Meeting

Happy New Year! We had a nice turnout for our new meeting and got to turn in lots of charity quilt tops.

We didn't have any new announcements for this meeting but we did collect lots of BOM blocks from various months. Look at all the pretty blocks! :)

Susanne presented the Block of the Month for February. She made the Scrappy Log Cabin Heart. You can find the tutorial on our BOM linked here.

We moved onto Show and Tell and Madelynn brought in the charity quilt top she made.

Jessica's turned in her charity quilt top.

She's making a Bear Paw wall hanging for her home and brought in one of her bloks to show.

She also finished an adorable set of flannel pajamas for her grandson.

Jan Gates made this beautiful quilt as a late Christmas present for her brother in law and his wife.

Denise brought in the charity quilt top that she finished as well. It's fun to see all of these tops come together.

Susanne was the last person to share her charity quilt top that she finished.

Nancy brought in this cute folding shopping bag she made. The pattern used is called Use, Stash, and Repeats by Sue Stone from Needle in a Fabric Stash.

We ended the meeting with our Raffle. Here were the winners:
Susanne won a pack of patterns, Jessica won the Primitive Gatherings gift card, and Jan Gates won a pack of zipper bags.

Here are some upcoming dates to remember:
-Saturday January 25th we'll having a sew day at Jessica's from 11 to 3. If you're interested, email us at for her address.
-Our February meeting will be February 20th, and it'll be a UFO sit and sew at Primitive Gatherings.

Hope to see you all next month! :)
