April 2019 Meeting

To start off April's meeting Jan told us about a meeting in Carson that she and Jessica went to where they got to meet some possible future speakers. Hopefully, we'll get to have a couple speakers out here later this year. Jan also let us know that she will not be at our meeting in May so Jessica will be taking over. After announcements and the treasury report, Toni presented the BOM for April which is the X and Plus Block. You can find the tutorial here

This was the first month we had the "Free Table". There were books, fabric, and other quilt related items brought by members to share with whoever wanted the goodies. We will do this every other month. Anything that is not taken will need to be taken home by the person who brought it or Jan will take it to donate to charity. Our next Free Table will be at the June meeting.

For this meeting, in lieu of a demo, members were asked to bring in their favorite quilt book or magazine. Jessica's favorite quilt book is The Quilting Bible.

I shared my favorite book Patchwork, Please!

A guest and new member Margaret shared her favorite 4 books: Cabin Fever, The Quilter's Negative Space Handbook, The Quilt Design Coloring Workbook, and a Fiber Artist's Guide to Color & Design.

Toni brought in her favorite book by Denise Schmitt called Modern Quilts Traditional Inspiration.

Jan shared her favorite book City Quilts and Patchwork & Quilting (a UK Magazine, not pictured).

After discussing books and magazines Nancy started our Show and Tell with this charity quilt she quilted and bound.

Nancy also made these cute coasters from the demo she did in March. She used fusible fleece on the inside instead of batting because they stay flatter. Look at all the fun bright colors!

I brought in this duffel bag I made for a friend's girlfriend. The pattern used was the
Swoon Dallas Vintage Duffel.

I also made these zipper glasses holders for my aunts as Mother's Day gifts. The pattern is the Raccoon Case by Pink Pony Design.

Jessica brought in this black and white quilt she made as a Christmas gift for her brother who lives on a farm.

Toni shared this bound charity quilt she finished using scrappy binding.

Toni also put a beautiful quilt together using her X and Plus block she used for this month's BOM and named it "Good Day Sunshine".

Judy shared a charity quilt she bound for the guild.

Lori made this fun Jelly Roll Race quilt and used minky for the binding. The binding is so soft!

Taylor cut up her jelly roll race quilt to make it different. It's like a design within another design. :)

Jan collected a bunch of green heart blocks for those affected by the Christchurch, New Zealand shooting. She mailed them off the week after.

Blocks from last month's BOM were also collected.

We ended the meeting with our monthly raffle. Here were the winners:
Jessica won the $25 Primitive Gatherings gift card, Margaret won a Dessert roll (5 in strips), and Taylor won the Add a 1/4 inch ruler, FQ bundle and tape measure.

Our next meeting will be on May 16th, we were planning on a speaker, but that's been moved to the June meeting.  In May, we're going to have some fun and play Left, Right, Center; Drew from Primitive Gatherings is donating some prizes, be there or be square!

The June 20th meeting, w
e will have the Moda rep as our speaker so be sure to make it out to Primitive Gatherings by 6:30. Hope to see you all there! :)
