December 2019 Meeting / Christmas Party

Happy Holidays! Last week we had our December meeting and Christmas party! It was a smaller group and our Show and Tell was short but we still had fun, as always!

Jan Gates brought in this black, white, and yellow quilt she made for herself.

And Jessica made this cute fox makeup bag for her daughter.

After Show and Tell I presented the January BOM, which is the Wonky Star. The tutorial I used by Wombat quilts is up on the blog and the BOM link can be found here.

Yummy snacks were brought in by each of the members and we had some time to enjoy them while catching up with one another.

We'd each brought in a wrapped gift for a Yankee Gift Exchange. There were so many great gifts!

We then did our monthly raffle. Here were the winners:
I won 2 Windham fabric bundles and Jan Gates won a gift card for Primitive Gatherings.

We ended the night with two games of Left Right Center where we played with all red fat quarters. Maddelynn and Taylor were our winners!

And that's a wrap for our 2019 year! We'd love to see you all in the new year.
Our next meeting will be January 16, 2020, so come on out! :)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year from the Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild!

November 2019 Meetig

Hello quilters! At This last meeting we reinstated our current board members and elected Nancy Thomas as our President! Madelynn presented the November Block of the Month called the Maple Leaf. She found the tutorial on the Seasoned Homemaker blog post. You can find our BOM post here.

For this meeting we shared our favorite quilting tools. Jan's favorites are her design boards and  rotating cutting mats.

Nancy's favorite was a black light on her long arm sewing machine that she uses for finding white thread on white fabric.

Other favorites that were not shown were Madelynn's seam ripper and for Margaret it was adding a freeweight to the top of her long ruler to stabilize when cutting long strips and using a scrap fabric to start piecing.

New member Deby started us off with Show and Tell. She purchased this kit "Savernake Road" from Sewing Party in San Juan Capistrano.

She made this fun and scrappy quilt from leftover fabrics. The pattern is called "X's and O's".

This colorful quilt was a Mod TV quilt kit.

And this beauty was an applique kit purchased at Road to California.

I shared this Swoon Dallas Duffel bag I made for a friend. I used Tula Pink's De Le Luna line for the outer fabrics.

Margaret made this Christmas quilt for her nephew.

Nancy shared this quilt top that she pieced while in North Dakota on a retreat.

She also made this baby quilt. The pattern is "Through the Looking Glass" by Sew Emma.

Jan and Margaret brought in their completed charity quilt tops. Beautiful jobs, ladies! :)

We ended the meeting with our raffle. Here were the winners:
Nancy won the "Why We Quilt" book and pack of quilting notions and Margaret won some quilting stencils.

Upcoming reminders:

Our next meeting  will be on December 19th and it will be our Christmas Party! So please bring snacks to share. We will be doing a Yankee Gift Exchange. Bring a quilted item or quilt related item nicely wrapped. :)

We'll also play Left Right Center so bring 3 red fat quarters to play along.
Next Year's dues are now being collected. The first 12 to sign up will get a bottle of Flatter.
We hope you see you all in a few weeks!

October 2019 Meeting

October's meeting was a fun one with Show and Tell and a hands on demo from Jessica. After announcements, Jessica presented the Block of the Month which is called the Whirlwind Block. The BOM post can be found here

We started off Show and Tell with Lori and the amazing Catch all Caddy she made.

Lori also made this beautiful quilt for herself.

Jessica brought in a fun finished UFO Christmas quilt top she started last year.

She also finished the snuggly flannel baby quilt made from scraps from the free table for grandbabies.

Denise made the Bad Girl Quilt by Southern Charm Quilts and used the Autumn Vibes line. What a perfect quilt for Fall!

She also finished this Country Chic quilt by Sew Kind of Wonderful.

After Show and Tell, Jessica gave a demo on how to make quilted ornaments. She brought in extra supplies so we could join in on the fun and make them along with her.

This was one of the completed ornaments she made at home.

For step by step instructions you can watch a YouTube tutorial here.

At the end of the meeting we had our monthly raffle. Here were the winners:

Denise won some cute zipper pouches, Maddelynn won a Charm Pack, and Jessica won the Primitive Gatherings gift card.

Our next meeting will be November 21st, at which time we will be voting for next year's board members. We're also starting to collect dues for next year which will be $40. Dues can be paid via cash or check. And for those who took charity quilt kits, the quilt tops need to be returned by our January meeting.

Hope you see you all at the next meeting! :)

August 2019 Meeting

August's meeting started off with some announcements from Jan:

In October we will be taking nominations for the 2010 TVMQG President, as Jan has decided to step down. So start thinking about if you'd be interested in the job or if you would like to nominate anyone. :)

We've collected enough blocks to make about 12 of our Charity quilts and the extra fabric for sashing to make the kits have been ordered. A date to put those quilt kits together will follow.

Our next meeting will be on September 19th (which will be led by our VP Jessica) and will be a UFO sew in! So bring in a UFO you'd like to finish along with your sewing machine and sewing supplies.
The next board meeting will be October 10th at 8-Bit Brewing Company.

After announcements I presented the September BOM, which is the Raspberry Kiss block. The tutorial for the block can be found here

Taylor gave us a "Sewing With Kids Demo" with her 2 daughters and gave everyone handouts with tips she's learned sewing with them over the years. She had her daughters set up their desks and sewing machines while she gave us some wonderful pointers.

After the demo my daughter Isabel decided to try out Taylor's youngest daughter's machine. :)

Jan started off Show and Tell by showing us her Great Great Grandmother's quilt (made in what she has guessed to be the late 1700s) It was hand pieced and hand quilted.

Jan made these fun baby quilts...

Along with this awesome red quilt with facing.

New member Jan Gates showed off her baby quilt, baby book and crocheted mats
made of recycled plastic bags.

Nancy found fabric in Bismarck, North Dakota, and made 2 baby quilts out of them.

Margaret has been working on baby quilt tops such as this one for charity.

She also made a couple fidget quilts and turned them in to donate them to charity.

Jessica took a jelly roll and charm pack and made a christmas quilt top.

We ended the meeting with our monthly raffle. Here were the winners:
Susanne won the Primitive Gatherings gift card, Jessica won charm packs and a spool of thread, and Alanice (Taylor's older daughter) won the All Hallows charm pack.

Until next time!
