July 2019 Meeting

July's meeting was an extra small one of Jessica, Nancy, Madelynn, Susanne, and Angelica. But nevertheless we had fun!

Jessica made a few announcements:
Even though it's still Summer, the Christmas swap will be here before we know it. For this year's swap we will be bringing a quilted item. They can be made or purchased.
For August's meeting we will have Taylor doing a demo about sewing with kids.
And for those who'd like to attend we will have a board meeting on August 8th.

August's BOM was done by Jan and the block is called the "Bowtie". Link can be found on the blog post here.

After announcements we shared a few things. Nancy made this adorable Florence Flamingo quilt for herself. The flamingo pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman.

Angelica brought in this baby quilt that will be need a borders. She used all her favorite moon and star prints.

Jessica showed off her sewing skills with her Comicon cosplay jacket for her Evil Queen costume from Once Upon a Time for this weekend.

After our short Show and Tell we went ahead with our name badge sew in. We all made the tops and took them home to finish.

After working on our name badges we ended with our monthly raffle. Here were the winners:
Nancy won a Nancy Zieman book; Susanne won an embroidered feather pillow kit; and Angelica won a Moda charm pack.

The next meeting will be on August 15th. Hope to see you there! :)

June 2019 Meeting

It's summer! :) We met June 20th and had a fun meeting. We started our meeting with some announcements.
Jan announced that in order to encourage membership we've created some incentives. If you bring a guest to any future meetings you will get an extra raffle ticket. And if they join you get a $10 gift card to Primitive Gatherings.
We also talked about the charity quilts. We've decided on the design and now simply need to decide on the solid color for the pattern. More info on that will go out once it's been finalized.

Madelyn was in charge of the Block of the Month for June and she chose the Friendship Star Quilt Block. The link to the instructions can be found here

We also collected BOMs from past months.

Dimitria from Moda came to give a presentation.
Sarah Watts panels and fabric from her new line "Crescent" will be released in August of 2019.

This quilt will be a kit from the Darling line.

May 2019 Meeting

For the May meeting Jan was in Tuscany on vacation (lucky duck!) so Jessica lead the meeting. There were no announcements other than that the Moda rep will be out next month instead of this meeting.

We collected the April BOMs. I love how cute and scrappy they are! 😍

Jessica presented May BOM which is the Duck Walk Block. The instructions are listed on the BOM blog post here.

Our new member Margaret started off Show and Tell with this sweet nautical themed baby quilt she made for a friend's grandchild.

Susanne made this wall hanging for above her bed and named it "absent minded bowties".

She also created this fidget quilt that we talked about making for charity at the beginning of the year.

Toni told us about a half square triangle exchange she joined last year in where she collected these smaller border squares. Her husband helped her pick out the green fabrics to create bigger blocks to go with them to make the quilt bigger. What a great helper!

And then she created this table topper with the scraps leftover from the big quilt.

Lori brought in her simple but elegant gray half square triangle quilt top she made to go in her house.

Jessica was working on her UFOs so she picked up some blocks she started on a few years ago for our solids challenge and put together this quilt top.

Jessica also shared a Nuno panel she purchased at Needle in a Fabric Stash and is using the sashiko method to stitch on the lines to be made into pillows. (not pictured)

After Show and Tell we played the game Left Right Center and the prizes were generously provided by Drew from Primitive Gatherings.

My 8 year old daughter and fellow quilter won! Looks like we'll have lots of sewing to do over the upcoming summer break!

We ended our meeting with our monthly raffle. Madelynn won the Moda Jen Kingwell charm pack and storage cup, Margaret won the $25 gift card for Primitive Gatherings, and Lori won the Sew Hometown pattern calendar.

Don't forget to join us next month to hear a presentation for Moda Fabrics!
